Our Vision
There are a wide array of issues to focus on within the Working Mother arena. Our current vision is to help ease much of the overwhelming tasks that confront Working Mothers, as well as, alleviate some of the frustrations and isolation that they encounter. We will do this by providing a broad spectrum of venues, resources and activities:
Childcare Initiatives - Currently there is very little in place to ensure the family friendly child-care facilities our communities need. NAWM wants to ensure that child-care givers are working along with mothers and families in terms of flexibility, affordability and quality.
Annual Working Mother Summit - A venue where working mothers can receive support and acquire the various resources to “get it all done”, between career, family and personal well-being. An opportunity listen to keynote speakers, on those topics that most affect them. An occasion for various vendors to come and market their services and solutions for the working mother.
Quarterly Working Mother Town Meetings and Focus Groups – Where Working Mothers can share their camaraderie, experiences, concerns and ideas about their “tour of duty”. We will also host “brown bag lunch” focus groups. These meetings will also feature segments for expectant Working Mothers, that will inform them of what they can expect emotionally and physically; how to plan for maternity leave and the opportunity to talk with and share their experiences with other Moms. These focus groups will also help us chart the direction of NAWM in developing an organization that will best serve Working Mothers and it’s members.
Annual Mother/Baby Expo – A magnanimous trade show where mothers can find the latest and greatest in maternity/infant/child products and services all under one roof.
A Monthly Newsletter – That will highlight ideas and great finds for Working Mothers and their families, and a section, where Working Mothers can share their stories of challenge and success.
An On-Line Working Mother’s Dossier and Database that will contain the best-of-the-best of resources, that no working mother would want to be without.
A Working Mother’s Hotline – This was an idea suggested to us at our Working Mothers Focus Group, where Mothers can call for support, information and resources.
Educational Opportunities - We also feel that we can help Working Mothers by educating and sensitizing their employers, families and our legislature by helping them to understand what she is faced with and that with some innovative input, she can successfully accomplish her goals, both at work and at home, as well as effectively meeting and fulfilling her own personal goals.
NAWM’s Philanthropic Efforts Will Be Based On:
1) Helping Women from Welfare to Work
2) Helping Working Mothers with Cancer
3) Speaking Before the House & Senate - on Working Mother issues, and to help promote legislature that will cultivate, benefit and protect Working Mothers and their families.
While NAWM understands this is a large undertaking, we also know that the Working Mother face a many challenges. It is our goal to help her develop the foundation and balance needed to help enhance her lifestyle personally and professionally.
